A countywide drill Thursday will test Solano County Health and Social Services Emergency Services Bureau, area hospitals and emergency responders to see whether they’re prepared to handle a communicable disease, Matthew A. Davis, public communications officer, said.
“The exercise gives the county, hospitals — Kaiser Permanente, NorthBay Medical Center and Sutter Solano Medical Center — and emergency first responders the opportunity to practice and improve their response to care for Solano County residents in a disaster or disease emergency situation,” Davis said.
Starting Thursday morning, multiple people playing the role of victims of an infectious disease will show up at Solano County hospitals, clinics and other health care offices, Davis said.
That will be part of the emergency preparedness drill, to test whether policies and procedures designed to care for patients can handle emerging communicable diseases so that they pose no health risk to the public, Davis said.
Such a drill is a common event, he said.
“Every year, Solano County’s Public Health Emergency Services Bureau participates in a statewide emergency preparedness drill and leads efforts at the local level,” he said. “Last year the drill focused on an active shooter situation.”
Those with questions during the exercise may call the Solano County Office of Emergency Services, 707-784-1600.
