In a “cleanup action” considered so routine it was approved simultaneously Tuesday without comment on the consent calendar, Benicia City Council authorized City Manager Brad Kilger to accept the grant deed to the acre of land at the Benicia Industrial Park on which a bus hub is expected to be built.
Acquisition of the property from the family of Antonio and Graciela Barragan, who have operated a food truck there for more than 20 years, is nearly finished, City Attorney Heather McLaughlin told the Council before Tuesday’s meeting.
But Benicia has no generic resolution by which it can get deeds recorded, so each action of that type requires separate Council action.
“This step was left out of previous reports.” she advised in her report.
The resolution passed by the Council noted that grant funding, already secured, will underwrite industrial park bus hub construction project that’s designed to increase transit ridership.
The resolution also states that the Barragans, with whom the Solano Transportation Authority have been negotiating on the city’s behalf, have agreed to sell their property.
Among other matters decided Tuesday, the Council affirmed Mayor Elizabeth Patterson’s appointments to two of the city’s advisory panels.
John McGuire has been appointed to the Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Commission and Kari Birdseye has been appointed to the Human Services Board.
Patterson said the city is accepting applications for one unexpired term on the Arts and Culture Commission, and another unexpired term on the Human Services Board.
Those interested may call City Clerk Lisa Wolf, 746-4200.
