Core ready for her sophomore college softball season

photo 1-1Benicia High graduate Kendall Core is ready for her sophomore season as a starting third baseman for Alabama State University.

Core started in 41-of-42 games for the Lady Hornets her freshman year and hit .364 with 10 doubles, six home runs, 32 RBI and 18 runs scored. She was the Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week in early March of 2014 and was a Hitter of the Week last April.

Core, who had a .421 on-base percentage and .595 slugging percentage, was a First Team All-SWAC third baseman. Core, who graduated from Benicia High in 2013, was a three-time All-Solano County Athletic Conference selection for the Lady Panthers and was the SCAC’s Most Valuable Player in 2012.

Alabama State opens the season at home this Friday as the Lady Hornets host the Troy Chick-Fil-A Invitational.
