A 22-month-old boy injured June 2 in a Vallejo traffic accident has died, Vallejo police Sgt. Michael Nichelini said Tuesday.
He said the boy was hurt about 7:25 a.m. June 2 in a crash that occurred on south California Highway 29 north of Meadows Drive when a 1998 Ford Contour collided with a 2006 Ford F-450 pickup truck that was pulling a utility trailer.
Vallejo Fire Department and Medic Ambulance units arrived, Nichelini said, and medical personnel began treating the occupants of the Contour that was being driven by a 35-year-old Vallejo man.
The man was taken to Northbay Hospital, Fairfield. The boy, who had been riding in the back of the Contour, was airlifted to the University of California-Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Nichelini said.
However, “On June 8, 2015, the 22-month-old child succumbed to his injuries,” he said.
A 55-year-old American Canyon resident who was driving the pickup truck was uninjured.
Nichelini said a preliminary investigation, which remains open, indicates the driver of the Contour rear-ended the truck and trailer combination at a high rate of speed.
“The truck and trailer was slowing for heavy commute traffic,” he said.
“Intoxication does not appear to be a factor.”
Those with any information about the accident may call Officer James Melville or Officer Shane Bower at the Vallejo Police Department Traffic Division at 707-648-4329.
