A car flipped over on the side of Interstate 780 Wednesday.
Benicia Firefighters received a call at 8:14 a.m. that a car traveling east down Highway 780 had lost control and exited the freeway, flipping over one time. The car landed 50 yards south of the highway near the Benicia State Recreation Area. Firefighters rushed to the accident and began helping the man involved. He was ejected from his vehicle during the accident, and after fighters had arrived was rushed to the nearest trauma center in an ambulance.
“We always encourage you call 911 whenever there is an incident like this,” Jason Fein, Division Chief for the Benicia Fire Department, said. “We discourage folks from exiting their vehicle on the highway. It is a very unsafe action. Normally we won’t exit our vehicles without traffic controls in place as rescuers.”
