Bruins celebrate Homecoming tonight against Pinole Valley

October 7, 2016 by Steve Guertin Leave a Comment

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High varsity football team celebrates Homecoming tonight when the Bruins host Pinole Valley in the Tri-County Athletic League opener for both teams.

The Bruins (5-0) were unstoppable during the non-league season, outscoring their opponents 255-19 while winning each game by at least 35 points. Senior quarterback Michael Pappas has led a potent offense featuring Marquel Johnson, Marshel Martin and Kailon Johnson-Loud. SPSV’s defense had its string of three straight shutouts get snapped last week when Harker scored a lone touchdown.

Pinole Valley (1-4) has been headed in the opposite direction, losing four straight after a 35-24 win at College Park in the season opener. The Benicia Panthers handed Pinole Valley its first loss back on Sept. 2 and the Spartans haven’t won since.

Pinole Valley’s offense rotates around senior running back Sam Nuss, who is averaging 100 yards rushing per game and has four touchdowns. Seniors Kyler Deng and Julian Pedley often split time at quarterback.
