Supervisor Monica Brown will be holding a community meeting at City Hall on Monday to discuss the proposed expansion of crude oil tankers at the Phillips 66 refinery in Rodeo.
Phillips 66 announced its plans to double the amount of ships to deliver crude oil to its marine terminal. However, the plan has raised concerns, especially amidst an incident last September where oil sheens connected to a Phillips 66 tanker spilled into the San Pablo Bay and emitted an odor that sent people in nearby areas to hospitals.
Because of the refinery’s close proximity to Benicia and Vallejo, which Brown represents on the Solano County Board of Supervisors, she submitted a public comment to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) about items she felt should be considered as the Draft Environmental Impact Report is being drafted for the proposal. One point the supervisor made was over the need for a public scoping meeting in Benicia, similar to one that was held in Vallejo in late July.
“My Benicia constituents were impacted by the last Phillips 66 and deserve to have a voice in something that has already so negatively impacted them,” she wrote in her comment to BAAQMD.
Brown will be holding a meeting to garner community feedback on the project and give residents a chance to provide comments on the scope of the DEIR. According to a news release put out by Brown’s office, BAAQMD staff will be present at the meeting. There will also be forms provided for people to submit comments to BAAQMD.
The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14 at City Hall, located at 250 East L St. The public is welcome to attend. Public comments regarding points to be addressed in the DEIR should be submitted to P66MarineTerminalPermitRevision@baaqmd.gov by Monday, Aug. 28. For more information on the meeting, contact Brown’s office at 784-3031.
