Christmas is less than a week away, and people are scrambling to get a tree for the occasion, if they have not done so already. However, once Christmas has already passed, the question then becomes “How should we dispose of this tree?”
Thankfully, there are many options. For instance, the Benicia Boy Scouts would be more than happy to recycle it for you.
Benicia’s Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture Crew and Sea Scout Ship are joining forces with the city of Benicia and Allied Waste to recycle trees as a community service. The trees can either be dropped off at the Benicia Community Park or First Baptist Church or picked up from a home or business. The trees are then chipped and used for ground cover on city properties.
Tree recycling dates are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.— although trees are asked to not be dropped off after 3:30 p.m.— from Saturday, Dec. 31 to Monday, Jan. 2 and again on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8. The First Baptist Church is located on 1055 Southampton Road, and the Community Park is located at 540 Rose Drive, behind Matthew Turner Elementary School.
If you would like to have your tree picked up from your home or business, fill out an electronic form at http://beniciascouts.org/cgi-bin/treecycle, or call the tree recycling hotline at 551-4520. Make sure to have your tree outside on either your curb, porch or driveway by 8:30 a.m. on the day you choose. Scouts will not enter your home. A suggested check donation of $7 is also recommended.
