The Black Irish Band returns to the Benicia Historical Museum at the Camel Barns Saturday, with a concert themed after the men and women who immigrated to California in the 1800s. Selections will tell tales in story and song of some of the hardships and successes that play an integral part in California and American history.
Hailing from the historic Gold Rush town of Sonora, Calif., the Black Irish Band has a musical style that is a tribute to the people whose lives were spent building the world we now take for granted, according to band member Patrick Karnahan.
“We are story tellers too,” Karnahan told the Herald. “The show will be mostly ballads, original and traditional. We’ll do some instrumentals and a few love ballads, at least a dozen songs people haven’t heard before.” Karnahan says the band enjoys introducing audiences to the stories behind the songs, giving them more of a flavor for each piece.
The concert takes place Saturday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. at Stone Hall, Benicia Historical Museum, 2060 Camel Road. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and are available at the museum, at Bookshop Benicia at 636 First St., or online at brownpapertickets.com. For more information about the band, visit their website at blackirish.com.
