Benicia High’s varsity water polo teams split their matches against host Roseville on Tuesday, with the Panther boys losing 9-7 and the Lady Panthers rallying for a 14-12 victory in double overtime.
Jason Own had three goals for the Panther boys, who fell to 2-6 overall. Benicia trailed Roseville 5-2 at halftime, pulled to within 7-5 after three quarters but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Chloe Bonini, Zoe Crowder-Healey and Mireya Cabral-Mixco each had three goals for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 2-1 overall. The Lady Panthers trailed 6-1 after one quarter but outscored Roseville 8-4 in the second half to force overtime.
The Lady Panthers will face Roseville again this weekend at the Sierra Shootout.
