Benicia High’s varsity volleyball team swept host Fairfield last Thursday, 25-7, 25-12, 25-15, setting up a showdown at Vanden on Tuesday for what amounts to a Solano County Athletic Conference championship match.
It was the 10th straight victory for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 14-2 overall and 12-1 in the SCAC. Vanden (18-7) is also 12-1 in the SCAC and can deny Benicia its sixth straight conference title with a win on Tuesday. Benicia and Vanden split their two previous meetings this season, each team winning on its home court. Vanden swept the Lady Panthers in three sets when the two teams met in Fairfield back on Sept. 20.
Senior Jessica Blakeman led Benicia with 10 kills and five digs against Fairfield (2-11 SCAC). Emily Maher added seven kills and Sara McBride had four kills.
Other standouts for Benicia included Amanda Ajari (12 assists, six aces), Karah Fisher (14 assists, four aces), Ramona Glatzel (five aces, six digs) and Taylor Lewis (five digs).
