Benicia High’s varsity volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-21 victory over host American Canyon last Thursday.

Jessica Blakeman had 17 kills and 19 digs for the Lady Panthers, who finished 13-2 in the Solano County Athletic Conference, one game behind conference champion Vanden. It’s the first time since 2010 the Lady Panthers didn’t win the SCAC title.

Karah Fisher had 20 assists and Amanda Ajari added 14 assists for Benicia. Other standouts included Joy Fukushima (17 digs, three aces), Sara McBride (six kills), Emily Maher (five kills), Kyianna Collins (three blocks) and Natalie Sluga (three aces).

Blakeman was named the SCAC’s Offensive Player of the Year while teammate Ramona Glatzel was named Defensive Player of the Year. Fisher and Maher were each All-SCAC Honorable Mentions.

Benicia, which enters the postseason with a 15-3 overall record, drew the No. 8 seed for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs and plays at home against No. 9 seed El Capitan on Tuesday night. El Capitan (14-13) went 7-5 in the Central California Conference, finishing in fourth place.
