Benicia High’s varsity volleyball team toyed with host Fairfield for a while last Thursday before sweeping the Lady Falcons off the court, 25-9, 25-7, 25-17.
It was the second-straight sweep in Solano County Athletic Conference play for Benicia (4-0, 2-0 SCAC). The Lady Panthers are 3-0 on the road to open the season.
“The girls did a good job,” Benicia head coach Jamie Hadenfeldt said after Thursday’s win. “Fairfield was pretty competitive and picked up a lot of balls and kept things alive, but we did what we needed to do.”
Benicia senior Cassidy Jannson served Fairfield off the court with a dozen aces to go along with four kills. Eden Fukushima added seven assists and three kills, and Lana Gore had three digs.
“Everybody was able to play in both of our matches during the week,” Hadenfeldt noted. “It gave everyone a chance to learn the system and get in the flow of things. It’s nice to get into our league matches and putting things together.”
Benicia and Vanden (2-0 SCAC) battle for first place Tuesday in Fairfield, with the winner having the inside track to the SCAC championship.
“We’re looking forward to seeing how that match works out,” Hadenfeldt said. “Vanden is always competitive and energetic when we come to their place.”
