Benicia High’s varsity volleyball team made it 20 straight wins to open the season with an easy 25-7, 25-10, 25-6 road victory over the Fairfield Falcons.
It’s the second straight year Benicia has hit the 20-win plateau as the Lady Panthers (20-0) are off to one of the best starts in school history.
Megan Osterholt led Benicia’s attack with nine kills and also served for four aces. Cassidy Jannson had four kills and Charlotte Cannizzaro added three kills and two blocks.
Reanna Balmediano had seven aces as Fairfield had trouble keeping the ball in play. Benicia needed only 14 digs to secure a season sweep of Fairfield (1-17, 1-10 Solano County Athletic Conference).
Other standouts for Benicia included Eden Fukushima (14 assists, three aces), Kellie Sluga (three kills), Jessica Blakeman (three aces) and Lexi Saitz (four assists).
The Lady Panthers improved to 12-0 in the SCAC and can wrap up the conference championship with a win at second-place Vanden (15-4, 10-2 SCAC) on Tuesday. Benicia has won 53 straight SCAC matches dating back to 2011.
