Benicia High’s girls golf team wrapped up the regular season with a convincing 241-295 victory over visiting American Canyon last Thursday at Mare Island.
The 241 was a season-best score for the Lady Panthers, who swept the season series with the Lady Wolves and improved to 11-1 in the Solano County Athletic Conference. The Lady Panthers are all but assured their seventh straight league team championship when they take part in the SCAC Tournament on Tuesday at Vintners Golf Club in Yountville.
Junior Sofia Young and freshman Angel Antonio, who are expected to challenge for the individual championship at the SCAC Tournament, continue to lead the way for the Lady Panthers. Young shot a 40 (matching her season average) and birdied the seventh hole on her way to taking medalist honors against American Canyon. Antonio was right behind with a 41 (also matching her season average) and birdied the fifth hole.
Sophomore Lacey Tsutsui shot a career-best 45, five strokes better than American Canyon’s best score. Freshman Alexis Valentine birdied the final hole and finished with a career-best 53, and freshman Lauren Notarianni rounded out Benicia’s scorecard with a 62.
“I didn’t realize it was our best score,” said Benicia golf coach Allan Frederick. “I just knew that we blew them out.”
