Benicia High’s girls tennis team extended its string of consecutive Solano County Athletic Conference victories to 57 with a 9-0 sweep of visiting Fairfield on Tuesday.

Melanie Fisher was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 10-0 in the SCAC this season. Madison Lammert at No. 4 singles and Katie Steineman at No. 6 singles were also 6-0, 6-0 winners.

Madeline Beyer won her No. 2 singles match, 6-1, 6-0, and Emily Jewik cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 3 singles. Katie Voss, who moved up from doubles to No. 5 singles, won 6-1, 6-1.

LaPaula Parker and Sam Pacheco teamed up for a 6-2, 6-4 victory in No. 1 doubles. Justine Haarburg made her varsity debut with Frankie Soto at No. 2 doubles and won 6-1, 6-0. Ashley Ko and Sophia Jacobs were declared winners at No. 3 doubles after Fairfield (1-9 SCAC) defaulted.

“All six singles and No. 2 doubles took commanding leads in the first sets and finished strong in the second sets,” noted Benicia head coach Lisa Burton. “LaPaula and Sam had a solid first set, then had to fight back for a momentum change in the second. The Falcons started covering the net better and poaching any returns in the middle, but our consistent lob balls and LaPaula’s put-away net shots cinched the win.”

Benicia – which last week set the SCAC record for the longest girls team winning streak – begins the final third of the SCAC schedule Thursday at home against Vanden.
