Benicia High’s girls tennis team took a step closer to the all-time record for consecutive Solano County Athletic Conference wins with a 9-0 victory over visiting American Canyon last Thursday.
The win was Benicia’s 54th straight in SCAC competition, one short of the SCAC girls record held by the Rodriguez Lady Mustangs. Benicia, which has won four straight matches by 9-0 scores, can tie the record with a win at Bethel on Tuesday and can break it with a victory at Vallejo on Thursday.
“I am so proud of their determination,” said Benicia head coach Lisa Burton, whose team improved to 7-0 this season. “You can’t ask for more than that.”

Other singles winners for the Lady Panthers included Emily Jewik (6-4, 4-6, 12-10), Madison Lammert (6-1, 6-2) and Kaitlyn Tang (6-4, 6-0).
