Benicia High’s varsity wrestling team maintained its hold on first place in the Solano County Athletic Conference with a 66-9 victory at Vanden on Wednesday.
It was the 15th straight SCAC victory for the Panthers dating back to 2012. Benicia is currently tied with American Canyon a top the SCAC, each team 3-0 in conference competition this season. American Canyon defeated Bethel on Wednesday, 57-6, and hosts Benicia in the regular season finale Feb. 4.
Vanden (1-2 SCAC) at least gave Benicia a workout Wednesday, with nine matches taking place on the mat. The Panthers won 7-of-9, including four by pin.
Vincent Crivello (134), Joseph Hurst (154), Riley Pitkin (162) and Jack Manoukian (222) each won by pin for Benicia. Ryley Boutain (115) won on a tech fall, Steven Butts (154) won an 11-1 major decision and Trent Smith (147) won a 4-0 decision.
James Liddo had the only pin for Vanden at 108 pounds.
Benicia’s varsity will take part in the Tim Brown Memorial Wrestling Tournament beginning today at the Jackson Sports Academy in Sacramento. Benicia’s next SCAC dual match is next Wednesday at home against Fairfield (1-2 SCAC).
