Benicia Police searching for serial arson suspect

March 12, 2020 by Editor Leave a Comment

A map of eight arson cases in Benicia since Feb. 14. Benicia Police and Fire have been working together to collaboratively investigate and locate the suspect, an alleged, “thin built younger man.”

BENICIA – In the past month, the Benicia Police Department and the Benicia Fire Department have been working together to collaboratively investigate a series of arsons within the city. Since Feb. 14, 2020, agencies have investigated eight arson cases, all of them (except for one) involving palm trees. The majority of the fires were set between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The map (right) shows the locations of these incidents. Fortunately, so far the fires have not affected any structures or injured anyone as the Benicia Fire Department has been able to quickly respond and extinguish the blazes.

“However, we are resolved to find the suspect and put a stop to this. We are asking you, the community members, to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in your neighborhood,” said BPD Information Officer Irma Widjojo in a release.

At this point, BPD cannot provide the public with too many details on the suspect to keep the integrity of the investigation, other than it is a thin-built younger man. If you see anything in person, or perhaps through your security cameras, BPD would love to hear from you. You can call the department at 707-745-3411 or if it’s an emergency, call 9-1-1.
