January 8, 2019 by Editor 2 Comments

The Benicia Police Department is asking for residents and businesses in or close to the
highlighted area in the map to check their security cameras between 5:50 p.m. to 6 p.m. on
Saturday for any red or maroon sedan possibly with front-end damage.

(Benicia, Calif.) On Jan. 5, Saturday, at about 6:15 p.m. Benicia police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of East 5th St. to a report of an elderly woman lying on the side of the road.

Paramedics transported her to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to those injuries Sunday night. She has been identified as Sharon DeLamore, 70, of Benicia.

Benicia police detectives determined that Ms. DeLamore was a victim of a hit and run and we are actively investigating this case.

Detectives have identified the suspect car to be a red or maroon sedan and are working to enhance video footage of the vehicle captured on security cameras in the area. The vehicle was traveling northbound on East 5th Street toward Military East Road when it struck Ms. DeLamore.

The Benicia Police Department is asking for residents and businesses in or close to the highlighted area in the map to check their security cameras between 5:50 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday for any red or maroon sedan possibly with front-end damage.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or has any information on the case, to call 707-745-3411.

The Benicia Police Department’s heart is with the victim’s family during this tragic time, and asks for the responsible driver to turn themselves in to the Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing. Questions regarding this release can be referred to Irma Widjojo at iwidjojo@ci.benicia.ca.us.

This makes me very sad in several ways. Sharon DeLamore worked for the Benicia Community Action Council when I worked there. She has been retired for while and she was enjoying her art. I have a necklace that she made for me and I shall wear with all her caring. RIP my friend. I certainly hope the BPD is able to find the driver who did this.
