Storm expected to continue through Thursday
The Bay Area had quite a wet weekend as a result of the rainstorms. Solano County had received 4.74 inches of rainfall over the weekend, and the storms had caused problems throughout the Bay Area. A mudslide caused traffic problems on Highway 17 on the way to Santa Cruz, a tree fell on to a power line in Lafayette leaving nearly 300 Pacific Gas & Electric Company customers without power and several roads were closed as a result of flooding.
Thankfully, nothing that drastic happened in Benicia, although the city did experience some minor issues during the storm. Floods on East 2nd Street between D and E streets, and at East E Street between East 2nd and East 5th streets resulted in those roads being closed Sunday. After the waters subsided, the roads became drivable again.
The Public Works Department reported that a tree fell into the roadway on the 500 block of East 5th Street. It was removed by Public Works staff.
In preparation, two sandbag filling stations– at the Corporation Yard at 2400 East 2nd St. and at Kuhland Alley near East 2nd and E streets– were set up.
On Monday morning, PG&E reported only one power outage in Benicia, in the Industrial Park. Only three power outages were reported in Vallejo on Monday.
Monday provided a respite from the storm, but rain is expected to pick up again today and continue through Thursday. High tides are expected for 11:10 a.m. today and at 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, increasing the possibility of flooding with runoff from the last storm system. Citizens are encouraged not to drive through standing water.
