Benicia FD douses Industrial Park grass fire

July 5, 2018 by Editor Leave a Comment

Staff Report

The Benicia Fire Department extinguished a fire that burned 4 to 5 acres in the Industrial Park on Tuesday, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

At 12:45 p.m., the department responded to a report of a vegetation fire on the 300 block of Industrial Court. Initially, about 3 acres of grass and brush were burning, but it eventually spread to 4 to 5 acres before the Fire Department contained it. The department received assistance from the Vallejo and Valero fire departments. No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.

This is at least the third vegetation fire that has been taken place in Benicia within the last month. On June 15, a two-alarm grass fire burned 10 to 12 acres near Lake Herman Road before being extinguished. On June 28, a three-alarm fire burned off Interstate 780 between Columbus Parkway and Glen Cove before crossing the freeway where it was later put out by numerous agencies. In none of the incidents were any injuries reported or structures damaged.

Additionally, fire departments are working to extinguish the County Fire, which as of press time has burned more than 86,000 acres in Yolo and Napa counties and is 30 percent contained. Smoke was visible in Benicia this week, but the city is not under any danger.
