Benicia High’s boys varsity basketball team gave host St. Mary’s an early scare Monday night but couldn’t keep pace in an eventual 79-58 loss.
Benicia (2-5) jumped out to a 20-18 lead but St. Mary’s (10-3) ended the first half with a 24-16 run to take a narrow four-point lead into the break. St. Mary’s slowly increased the lead to 54-46, then put the game away with a 23-12 run in the fourth quarter.
Benicia, which has yet to win a game on the road this year, travels to Palm Springs for the MaxPreps Desert Heat Holiday Classic. Benicia opens against Brentwood School at 9 p.m. Friday.
