SEVERAL PETS HAVE NEW HOMES after three animal rescue organization brought them to Pups ‘N’ Purrz, 422 First St., to Adoption Day By the Bay on Nov. 2.

Umbella of Hope, Humane Society of the North Bay and Mission Pawsible were on site with adoptable pets, store owner James Long said.

Two dogs brought by Umbrella of Hope now have new homes, as does one dog made available by an Antioch animal shelter through Mission Pawsible, and another dog brought directly from Mission Pawsible.

“Also, one cat was adopted,” Long said.

Main Street urges giving Downtown Dollars

Downtown Dollars, which can be spent at Benicia’s downtown shops, restaurants and service companies, are available for sale at Benicia Main St., 90 First St.

“The idea behind Downtown Dollars is to ensure that money stays local,” said Deborah Meyer, Main Street’s event coordinator.

During the past decade, $250,000 in Downtown Dollars has been bought and redeemed at local businesses, rather than being spent elsewhere, she said.

“Downtown Dollars make a great gift for any occasion. They are a particularly popular gift choice for teachers, coaches, and employees,” Meyer said. “For many it takes the guesswork out of gift giving and simply gives the gift of choice.”

Downtown Dollars are sold in increments of $5 and $20, and are redeemable at more than 50 downtown businesses.

Among them are ABC Music Store, A Jewel in the Sky, All About Beauty Day Spa, Angel Heart 4 You, Arian Natural Nail Spa, Aroma Indian Cuisine, Artcentric Pottery and Glass Studio, Be Chic Boutique, Benicia Bead, Benicia Home Improvement, Benicia Main Street’s own store, Bombshell Hair & Ink, Bookshop Benicia, Camellia Tea Room, Capitol Café, Charlie’s Attic, Christina S, Chrysalis Skincare and Permanent Makeup, Computer One, Courtyard Salon & Spa, Dave’s Barbershop & Shaving Parlor, Discover Yesterday, Double Rainbow Café, Elizabeth’s Hair Design, Elisa’s Closet, Fabulous Finds, First Impressions and First Street Café.

Also accepting Downtown Dollars are Java Point Café, Joyous Spaces, Kinder’s Meats and Deli, Le’s Beauty Salon, Lindsay Art Glass, Lucca Bar & Grill, Luxe Hair Color & Design, Lynn’s Studio, Magic Healing Hands, Miguelena, Narcissus Salon, Next Door, Nine-O-Seven Grill, Posh Bed & Bath, Pretty Woman Hair Design, Pups ‘N’ Purrz, Randy’s Mexican Bar & Grill, Romancing the Home and Rose Angelica.

Among the others accepting Downtown Dollars are Sailor Jack’s, Sandoval’s Mexican Food, Studio 41, The Chill Wine & Beer Bar, The Rellik Tavern, TwoDays Jewelry, Union Hotel Restaurant & Bar, Venticello’s Wellness Wisdom and Wheels in Motion.
