Travel executives to tour Benicia Oct. 26
A group of travel industry professionals will tour Benicia Oct. 26, Mike Caplin said.
They are members of SKAL, a worldwide organization of travel and tourism managers.
Caplin is past president of SKAL of San Francisco. “I thought it would be a great idea to host the club here in Benicia for our annual fall outing,” he said.
Mayor Elizabeth Patterson will join the organization at lunch at Sailor Jack’s, he said.
Those attending will be coming from San Francisco and from SKAL clubs in other Northern California areas, including San Joe and Sacramento.
Caplin anticipates a group of at least 30 to 40. “Needless to say, the EDB (Economic Development Board), Benicia Main Street and First Street merchants are pretty happy about the event,” he said.
SKAL dates back to 1932, when a joint Swedish and French air service between Stockholm, and Paris was started.
Those in the Paris travel industry were invited to fly the new route, and they were welcomed warmly when they arrived in Stockholm.
Those making the trip valued the new friendships, and decided to found an organization to promote goodwill in travel and transportation in other countries as well.
The organization now has 450 clubs and 20,000 members in 85 countries.
