Western Railway Museum has beer tasting for dads
The Western Railway Museum has expanded its summer hours, and has slated a special Father’s Day event that includes beer tasting, Phil Kohlmetz, executive director, said.
The Father’s Day beer tasting will be from noon to 3 p.m. on June 21, aboard a century-old parlor-observation car.
The event will have train rides and family activities. Tickets are $20, and limited to 35 participants, who will get a souvenir pint glass and the opportunity to sample four beers from those brought by Woodland’s Decompression Rx Brewing and 4C’s Brewing, Kohlmetz said.
Children, their fathers and others can participate in a scavenger hunt, several hands-on activities and streetcar rides.
Through Labor Day, the museum will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, including Independence Day, July 4, and Labor Day, Sept. 7.
Each day, the museum gives hour-long, 11-mile rides on restored historic interurban railroad equipment in the Sacramento Northern Railway National Historic District. Trains run at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and docents describe local sights and railroad history on each trip.
Visitors can see the Traction Labs interactive energy and transportation exhibit, tour the Car House where 25 life-size antique electric rail cars are housed, have a picnic under Laflin Park’s shade trees and shop at the museum store.
Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for older residents and $7 for children. The $20 Beer Tasting for Dads tickets are being sold through BrownPaperTickets at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1640088.
