BENICIA KITE AND PADDLE SPORTS, 238 First St., has been a Benicia downtown business for one year.
The company marked its first anniversary Saturday afternoon with a beverage and pizza reception and open house.
The celebration continues through the rest of September with 10-percent discounts on merchandise and services.
“We have been in business for a year, and have had great success with customers, both locally and in the Bay Area,” owner Chris Gatewood said.
“Everyone seems to be embracing what we’re doing — paddle boarding, kites and kite surfing on the water,” he said, listing some of the sports to which the store caters. In addition, Benicia Kite and Paddle Sports has children’s scooters and a complete skate shop.
Hours at the store are noon to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, noon to 8 p.m. Thursdays during the Benicia Certified Farmers Market, noon to 5 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Whipt Baked Goods introduces hip-hop cookies
Krizy Osada’s Whipt Baked Goods of Benicia is paying tribute to hip-hop and rap artists with a series of cookies, including pictorial cookies based on album covers and Oakland band Hieroglyphics’ three-eyed face logo.
She’ll be selling her cookies Sept. 22 at a food and music event, The Beat Down at SOMA Streatfood Park, 428 11th St., San Francisco.
