Affordable Quality Cabinets, Riedel Glassware to have wine event March 11
After attending an educational class by Riedel Glassware at the Miele Appliances show room in San Francisco, Allan Lemone, owner of Affordable Quality Cabinets, 4852 East Second St., has decided to offer a similar class March 11 at 6 p.m. at his Benicia business.
The class will answer questions about wine glasses, such as whether one size fits all and how shapes of glasses affect the wine experience.
“What the tasting will demonstrate is that one glass is not ideal for all styles of wine,” Lemone said. “A wine’s bouquet, taste, balance and finish are all affected by the shape of the glass it is consumed from. A wine will display completely different characteristics when served in different glasses.”
He said the differences can be so great that even experienced connoisseurs can believe they are tasting different wines when the same one is served in different glasses.
Claus J. Riedel introduced wine-friendly stemware in the late 1950s, and has created shapes designed to harmonize with specific wines, Lemone said.
Cost to attend the class is $50 per person, and those attending will receive a set of three Veritas red wine glasses, a gift, appetizers, wine and chocolate. Reservations are required, and those interested may call 707-745-2100.
