Solano County public school instructors urged to apply for funding

Music teachers in Solano County’s public and private schools are being invited to apply to the Solano Community Foundation for grants of up to $1,000 to support music programs and projects in classes from kindergarten to 12th grade, said Stephanie Wolf, chief executive officer of the foundation.

Grants are for the 2014-15 academic year, Wolf said, and can be used to buy musical instruments, sheet music, uniforms and accessories and expenses that are connected directly to music practice and performance.

Donald and Rose Marie Wong of Vacaville established the Wong Endowment Fund at Solano Community Foundation, specifically to underwrite the grants, Wolf said.

“We are most interested in providing resources for music teachers so their students have the equipment and materials to do their best,” Rose Marie Wong said.

“As these are competitive grants, we want to support music programs with a track record of talented student musicians and successful performances.”

Last year, her foundation awarded eight mini-grants to Solano County music programs, Wolf said.

The Solano Community Foundation was launched in 1995 and incorporated in 2001. Its stated purpose is to strengthen the community and let donors contribute to specific causes and to let local nonprofit organizations work efficiently and effectively for their clients, Wolf said.

Applications and instruction for these grants are available on the Solano Community Foundation’s website, www.solanocf.org.

Deadline to apply is noon on March 14.

Those interested may call Connie Harris, chief operating officer, at Solano Community Foundation, 707-399-3846.
