Organizers of the second annual Benicia Film Festival are issuing a call for filmmakers to submit their work by the May 1 deadline.
Helaine Bowles, volunteer and outreach coordinator for Benicia Public Library, said the festival “seeks to expand the arts and culture offerings of the city by providing an opportunity for individuals and organizations to come together and celebrate independent films, filmmakers and other local artists over the 2015 Labor Day weekend.”
The festival, a celebration of independent films, is organized by the Benicia Arts and Culture Commission, and the films will be shown the evening of Sept. 4, all day Sept. 5 and on the afternoon of Sept. 6.
The films are expected to vary in genre and come from throughout the country.
“Benicia is a great city for the arts, and BFF hopes to make it even better,” said Jacquelyn DuBois, chairperson of the festival.
“We seek all entries, both from aspiring and established filmmakers, along with ardent and engaged audiences celebrating the creative contributions of youth as well as adults while also benefiting the community educationally, socially and economically.”
The festival committee also is hoping people will volunteer to set up and support the festival’s screening venues, act as concierges during the festival and participate on the festival’s planning committee.
Films may be submitted to the Benicia Film Festival website and must arrive by May 1. Those interested may contact Bowles at 707-746-4358 or email info@beniciafilmfestival.com.
