Suisun Marsh Wildlife Center’s animal and bird residents, particularly the ones that are being rehabilitated for future release, could use a few gifts this season, too, Executive Director Monique Liguori said.
“Each year, we rescue and release back into the wild hundreds of sick, injured and orphaned California native wildlife,” she said.
She said those little birds and animals could use some donations that will help volunteers restore them back to health in preparation for the return to their native habitat.
Among the things needed are apples, seedless grapes, carrots, pea pods, bananas, mushrooms, corn on the cob — especially the fresh and hard ones — avocados, raw lean steak and ground beef, and even freezer-burned meats, Liguori said.
The center’s animals would enjoy frozen cooked shrimp, raw fish and seafood mix, raw eggs, unsalted nuts (both in the shell and out), bird seed, mouse food, Innova canned puppy food and dry adult dog kibble, Purina dry cat food, Evo cat and kitten chow, dry puppy food, plain yogurt, calcium powder and bird liquid vitamins, she said.
Besides food, the animals and volunteers could use bottled water, paper towels, toilet paper, facial tissues, Dawn liquid dish soap, laundry detergent, newspapers, Pine-Sol, pine and wood shavings and mouse bedding, small pet water bottles, bleach, bug spray, bug repellant, plastic baggies of all sizes, anti-bacterial hand soap and lotion, tall kitchen garbage bags and trash compactor bags.
These donations may be taken to the wildlife center at 1171 Kellog St., Suisun.
The center also is selling Franklin Mint figurines of animals and birds, with bases and certificates of authenticity.
The figurines were donated to the center to sell, Liguori said.
“We are selling these beautiful items at very reasonable prices,” she said. “We also have a complete Liberty Falls village for Christmas decorating.”
