Benicia artist Liisa Kankkunen recently completed painting the traffic control box at the corner of East 2nd and Military streets, the sixth box to be completed as part of the first phase of the Art & Culture Commission’s Public Art Initiative. Kankkunen’s design features paintings of numerous wildflowers with their scientific names printed alongside them. Other designs have been painted on traffic boxes throughout town by Bill Gian, Cody Frisinger, Kerry Lee Laird, Jiana Lyons and Samantha Johnson. (Photo courtesy of Terry Scott)
