The three Benicia Unified School District trustees elected in November, including newcomer Diane Ferrucci, will take the oath of office Thursday, after which the board will have its annual organizational meeting.
Rosie Switzer, Peter Morgan and Ferrucci will take the oath in the first part of the meeting, which will then be adjourned for a reception in honor of the incoming trustees and outgoing Steve Messina.
After the reception trustees will reconvene to have their organizational meeting, during which they will elect a new president and clerk, approve the 2015 calendar of board meetings and name appointees to various boards and groups.
Appointments of board representatives will be decided for:
• Solano County School Boards Association;
• BUSD/city Liaison Committee;
• Benicia Youth Action Coalition;
• District/BHS facilities committee;
• Valero Community Advisory Panel; and
• Benicia Community Sustainability Commission.
The board also will name members to its own Policy Committee, Advocacy/Initiative Committee and district Curriculum Council.
During the Nov. 20 meeting, Switzer, who currently serves as president, reminded other members of the board that because Trustee Steve Messina was leaving appointments held for the last year may be subject to change.
While there are no non-consent action items for the board to approve Thursday, there are a few items on the consent calendar that will not be discussed unless requested by a member of the board, staff or public, and that will be voted on in one motion.
Consent calendar items include acceptance of gifts to the district, approval of overnight and out-of-state field trips, and the second reading and approval of board policies on uniform complaint procedures, bullying, nondiscrimination and harassment, and sexual harassment.
