Three shoplifters were nabbed by police Tuesday night, according to a post on the Benicia Police Department’s Facebook page.* Three women– all from the East Bay– were caught shoplifting from the Rite Aid in Solano Square. Police arrested 24-year-old Antioch resident Yolanda Woods, 22-year-old Oakland resident Samantha Hardy 19-year-old Oakley resident Shamirra Soriano, after they exited the store without paying for more than $600 worth of Flonase sprays and baby formula, according to the Police Department. A Rite Aid employee witnessed the trio driving off with paper plates in a white Honda.
According to the Police Department, Officer Angela Maniego intuitively responded to CVS pharmacy on Rose Drive to see if the women would try to steal from that store as well. Officers Maniego Gregri DeGrange saw a similar vehicle in the Rite Aid parking lot and detained the women leaving the store. Rite Aid was able to recover all stolen merchandise.
The three were arrested and booked into Solano County jail for shoplifting and conspiring to commit shoplifting. Hardy was also charged for violating the terms of her probation.
“We are so proud of our officers for their proactive work and their thorough investigation on this case,” Irma Widjojo, management analyst for the Benicia Police Department, said. “Officer Maniego followed her intuition, and it resulted in the arrest of these suspects who have victimized at least one other business. We are also thankful for the alert employee who gave us the information that helped in this case. When our community works together, we can keep Benicia as the great city that it is.”
