Benicia police’s Youth Services officer and a Benicia Unified School District psychologist are being honored for their work in preventing child abuse.

Youth Services Officer Ted Criado will receive the Law Enforcement of the Year Award and school psychologist Keith Jordan will receive the Educator of the Year Award from the Solano County Child Abuse Prevention Council on Thursday in Fairfield.

Detective Sgt. Scott Przekurat nominated the two men for the council’s annual award.

Praising Criado, Benicia police Chief Sandra Spagnoli said in a news release, “Since being assigned as the department’s Youth Services Officer in December of 2009, Ted has done an excellent job in that position and is really making a positive impact on the lives of the kids he deals with.

“In addition to that, he has conducted outstanding investigations in juvenile cases that are very sensitive and delicate in nature. I appreciate the Council’s recognition of Detective Criado’s work.”

Jordan has been working closely with the police department for more than 15 years, she said.

“Keith has been very instrumental in our overall approach on how we try and intervene in the lives of kids who attend Benicia schools,” Spagnoli said.

“As the school psychologist, he has partnered with a number of our Youth Services officers and School Resource officers to provide assistance when needed to students and their families in difficult situations. His relationship with our department and the community is outstanding.”

BUSD Assistant Superintendent Keith Rogenski agreed.

“Benicia Unified School District is extremely appreciative and proud of the efforts and accomplishments of Keith Jordan on behalf of Benicia’s youth,” Rogenski said in the release. “He is an outstanding advocate for children and teens in our community.”

The awards ceremony and dinner, honoring 13 members of the Solano County community who make the county safer for children and families, is from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Courtyard by Marriott, 1350 Holiday Lane, Fairfield.
